Presentations

The focus of my school presentations is to show how many of my stories are based on my life and my true family stories and to encourage students to explore the stories in their families.  I discuss various ways of uncovering family stories and how they might be used in students' writing. I tell how my grandmother was the inspiration for my first book and show about 10 quilts that I designed and my grandmother made, including the real Canada geese quilt.  I show several slides of my home in Vermont and the animals I've rescued.  I also show the book process, from the writing through the illustrations to the finished book.  

Information about my school visits:

I speak to grades K-6, 3 presentations per day. Each presentation  lasts 1 hour (45 minutes for grads K-1).  I also conduct writing workshops.

Materials needed for presentation: slide projector and screen, 2 large tables, easel with paper and a marker.

My fees:

School visits:

  $1500 per day, (for 3 presentations and autographing), plus mileage & expenses.

When visits require an overnight stay - I welcome the opportunity to help schools save money by arranging to have  me stay at a parent or teacher's home.  I am an easy-keeper!

Vermont fee - $1000 per day (for 3 presentations) plus mileage.

(if you have particular dates in mind, it is best to schedule a visit well in advance, as I visit many schools and may already be booked.)
